Project/Unit Description

The Applied Systems Laboratory (ASL) Systems Integration Division (SID) supports systems integration, system design, and product development projects for the Department of Defense (DoD) manned and unmanned systems. SID research military systems specializing in avionics, electronic warfare, autonomous systems, intelligence systems, tactical communication/datalink systems; and live, virtual, constructive training solutions. The SID team's engineering roles include Systems Engineering, Algorithm Engineering, Datalink Engineering, and Embedded Software Engineering.

Job Purpose

The Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) develops and executes novel system model-based approaches to define, design, analyze, and document system development. The MBSE Researcher applies MBSE tool suites to enable the use of model-based best practices in DoD acquisition and system life cycle support. This position supports stakeholders and sponsors in the application of MBSE to trade space analysis, design, acquisition, and sustainment. The MBSE executes System Engineering and MBSE processes including system definition, functional decomposition, requirements development, architectural development and analysis, design synthesis, system analysis, data modeling and architecture development, test program development, and sustainment activities. The MBSE researcher also presents technical and program management presentations to government sponsors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead task teams in the authoring of UAF models capturing stakeholder needs and resulting enterprise architectures, SysML models capturing system requirements and design, and data models capturing system data requirements and design.
  • Direct sponsor engagement and facilitate product or system requirements gathering and analysis.
  • Verify systems engineering product life cycle including definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation.
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of moderate complexity.
  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes in a SysML model.
  • Implement approaches that foster reusability of existing model expressions.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Integrate open-system standards into modeling.
  • Define and manage Product Line Engineering (PLE) Methods.
  • Model full-lifecycle system operational capabilities through component system design ensuring completeness of integrated system meeting requirements and quality attributes.
  • Lead modeling efforts integrating cross-discipline engineering team information.
Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience developing complex, software-intensive, military or avionics systems using system engineering processes and methodologies.
  • UPDM or UAF experience
  • Familiarity with military open system standards (e.g. OMS/UCI, FACE, SOSA, COARPS, GCIA, CMOSS, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • UAF modeling experience.
  • SysML 2.0 familiarity.
  • Experience designing secure and safe system solutions.
  • Experience with Cameo Enterprise Architecture / System Modeler tools.
Travel Requirements
  • 10% - 25% travel.
