About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Scientist (Researcher 6) to join the Ziad Nahas Interventional Psychiatry Lab, investigating some of the most innovative treatments for psychiatric conditions. As a neuroimaging Research Scientist, you will play a crucial role in advancing our research endeavors in clinical trials for treatment-resistant depression, specifically related to neuroimaging data acquisition and analysis.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Neuroimaging code and technique development, including precision functional mapping (30%):
*Utilize programming languages such as MATLAB, BASH, and command line scripting to develop and maintain code repositories. Experience with version control systems like Git/GitHub is essential.
*Development of neuroimaging protocols for acquisition and analysis. Proficient in neuroimaging software such as Brainsight, Brain Vision software, FreeSurfer, FSL, and others for MRI image analysis and processing. Proficiency in working with surface-based cifti file formats (https://www.humanconnectome.org/software/connectome-workbench) is highly preferred.
*Enhance precision functional mapping techniques for mental health conditions. Be familiar with existing methods within the scientific literature for identifying neural networks using resting state fMRI data, and be able to implement these methods for personalized targeted therapies.

Neuroimaging analysis (40%):
*Use neuroimaging software to create well documented data analysis pipelines for immediate surgical preparation and longer term statistical exploration. Requires competency in a range of software and statistical tools including. Statistical modeling: Rstudio, SPSS, Sigmaplot, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).
*Create 3D models of neuroimaging data using software such as Blender, and CAD data visualization and analysis. Integrate real space 3D models to simulate brain stimulation data.

Resource Management (20%):
Manage and utilize various research resources, including but not limited to:
*Utilizing high performance computing clusters for distributed parallel processing.
*Proficiency with SLURM job scheduler.
*Familiarity with Amazon s3 buckets for data storage/retrieval.
*Working with large datasets and large neuroimaging cohorts.

Publications and Presentation (10%):
*Create figures and methodology for presentations and publications related to neuroimaging
*Develop research questions for publications related to studies and primary duties
*Attend and present research at conferences as available

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
*A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field such as Neuroscience, Physiology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline with substantial research and publication record.
*Proven track record of research accomplishments demonstrated through publications and presentations.
*Proficiency in various laboratory techniques including: Neuroimaging: MRI image analysis, BIDS neuroimaging specifications
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
*Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
*Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:
*Strong understanding of Human neurophysiology and the biophysics of neuromodulation.
*Familiarity with Mental Health and neurological assessments.
*Experience handling confidential data, including HIPAA-protected data.
*Proficiency in various laboratory techniques including:
a. Neuromodulation: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), cortical stimulation.
b. Physiological measurement techniques: Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (EMG).
