Earth/Space Science Adjunct Faculty position

Job Summary

Teach NAS102D Science Concepts: Earth / Space Science (2 sections, 2-credit, in-person course), a required course for students majoring in elementary education. Study of fundamental concepts and processes of earth/space science. Emphasis on the means by which science knowledge is produced through inquiry-based activities, which are an important, active-learning component in elementary school education. This is a half-semester, lab-based course.

Responsibilities

Have students experience the following concepts: Layers of the earth; plate tectonics; earthquakes; chemical makeup of minerals; plutons and volcanoes; weathering processes; types of rocks and rock identification; solar system; moon phases; celestial spheres and galaxies; eclipses, stars, black holes and constellations; and asteroids, comets, and meteoroids.

Skills

Effective teaching and pedagogy practices. Knowledge of 2019 MN State Science Standards preferred. Experience with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) preferred. Knowledge of A Framework for K-12 Science Education: Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Core Ideas, preferred.

Experience

Certification and K - 12 teaching experience preferred.

Education

Minimum of a Master's degree in Geology, Earth-Space Science or related field required.
