Wages & Benefits

$65,000 - $70,000 annual salary; 11 Paid Holidays plus accrued paid time off; company-paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and short-term and long-term disability; health savings account; company-sponsored retirement plan with automatic enrollment, a 10% employer contribution after 1 year of service, immediate vesting, and 100% employer matching on the first 5% of employee contributions and paid parental leave for eligible employees.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as the Hallie Q. Brown's Early Learning Childcare Center Director provides an opportunity to ensure the health, safety, and quality of education for all children within the center's care. Our Early Learning Center (ELC) provides preschool education and childcare for infants, toddlers and preschoolers ages 6 weeks through 5 years old. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Establishing a vision of high quality for the ELC.
  • Managing adherence to quality standards in accordance with the vision and with state and local requirements.
  • Developing general educational curricula and collaborating with staff to develop positive learning activities.
  • Hiring and supervising all ELC staff members, including providing new employee orientations and regular feedback and evaluations.
  • Assuring compliance with all DHS Licensing requirements and Ramsey County Strong Beginnings requirements.
  • Attaining and/or maintaining center accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and Minnesota Parent Aware 4-Star status.
  • Overseeing daily childcare classroom staffing.
  • Providing timely feedback to the teaching staff on curriculum, teaching technique, behavior management and communication skills.
  • Overseeing childcare enrollment intakes and Ramsey County Childcare Assistance authorizations, including sending Ramsey County Childcare Assistance forms to the finance department.
  • Managing applications and billing for scholarships.
  • Assisting in management and oversight of CACFP Food Program.
  • Interacting and communicating with administrative, childcare, and unified therapies staff regarding parent-child and family issues.
  • Assessing training requirements, staff development, and maintaining training records.
  • Managing weekly food orders for the center through our caterer.
  • Implementing community outreach activities to maintain and promote positive community relationships.
  • Overseeing all office functions including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, tuition billing and payment, human resources, staff supervision, and purchasing.
  • Managing budget planning and securing grant funding to address revenue needs not covered through other sources.
  • Ensuring that students' and children's cultural backgrounds are appropriately recognized, and cultural activities are integrated into education programs and training.

Who You Are

  • You hold a bachelor's degree AND at least 9 credit-bearing hours of specialized college-level course work in administration, leadership, or management AND at least 24 credit-bearing hours of specialized college-level course work in early childhood education, child development, elementary education or early childhood special education that addresses child development and learning from birth through kindergarten.
  • You have a minimum of three years of experience in a leadership position preferably in an early childhood program area of expertise with supervisory experience in an early childhood setting is preferred.
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR certified (may be obtained after employment).
  • Universal Precautions and Medication Administration (may be obtained after employment) certification.
  • You have knowledge of child development, children and family services, program management, and community partnerships.
  • You have the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse cultures with sensitivity and respect to the needs and experiences of impoverished families.
  • You possess excellent communication, administrative, and organizational skills.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to embrace the organization's mission and vision and have a high level of cultural competence.
  • You have the ability to maintain client confidentiality.
  • You are highly detail oriented.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet Hallie Q. Brown's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
