North Star Bank is looking for a talented and highly motivated Senior Vice President Commercial Loan Manager to join our team.  The SVP Commercial Loan Manager will provide leadership for new and existing business development and sales in addition to management of the Commercial Loan Officers, Commercial Loan Assistant, Credit Analysts, and Loan Operations department.  Responsibilities include the department’s performance through development and execution of a strategic plan, set lending and business goals while directing activities for the overall management of the loan portfolio, loan approval system, loan documentation and credit administration functions.  This position will develop and manage the Bank's existing commercial, real estate, and consumer loan relationships consistent with the Bank's lending policies to provide maximum profitability, minimal risk, and exhibit high level of customer service.  Officers are responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the institution in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and the principles of safety and soundness.   This position is based out of our Roseville location and is not a remote opportunity.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Provides leadership and management of the loan origination programs and staff to set and meet lending business goals.
 
  • Continual assessment of the Bank’s commercial portfolio performance utilizing data analytics tools and expertise to maximize the Bank’s loan-to-deposit ratio.
 
  • Service the borrowing needs of larger, more complex commercial customers by interviewing customers, explaining loan options, and obtaining all necessary information to support loan requests in a manner which conforms to Bank policy and results in a sound and profitable loan portfolio.
 
  • Manage loan portfolios by gathering and evaluating financial and related data to establish creditworthiness, establish and negotiate credit terms where necessary, and continually monitor customers’ financial condition and repayment progress.
 
  • Manage the credit function in a manner consistent with the Bank’s vision, culture and lending philosophy.
 
  • Ensure credit limits are within the Bank’s defined risk tolerance expectations and do not exceed certain amounts on any one account.
 
  • Approve or deny credit requests within personal lending authority.  Determine loan conditions and terms.  Present to Officer's Loan Committee and Board of Directors recommendations for loan requests in excess of personal lending authority.
 
  • Advise and train lenders regarding risk assessment and policy compliance.
 
  • Establish departmental lending policies and operating procedures and budget consistent with Bank policies and operating objectives.  Ensure loan policies are communicated and oversee programs to verify policy adherence.  
 
  • Manage loan area personnel including leadership, motivation, and monitoring performance of assigned personnel regarding credit extension and business development, promoting diversity, sensitivity, and teamwork. 
 
  • Solicit and obtain new profitable business from assigned and prospective customers by cross-selling and answering questions about all Bank products and services, thereby contributing to the continued growth and profitability of the Bank.
 
  • Active involvement in community and civic organizations, as appropriate, to represent the Bank in the community. 
 
  • Member of Officer's Loan Committee, Funds Management Committee, Compliance Committee, Loan Review Committee, CRA Committee, and IT Steering Committee. 
 
  • Assess and update lending policy guidelines to meet all safety and soundness requirements. 
 
  • Set goals, monitor work, and evaluate results to ensure that departmental and organizational objectives and compliance requirements are met.   
 
  • Must have knowledge of all Bank lending, card services, collections, and deposit procedures and policies to manage the daily requirements of running the department.  Stay current on all changes affecting the Bank and communicates these changes to the department staff to ensure compliance. 
 
  • Provide positive coaching and guidance to staff ensuring they meet department and professional development goals while fostering a positive and collaborative team environment. 
 
  • Monitor market conditions, observe competitor impact and makes recommendations to maintain a competitive and profitable product line.
Professional Qualifications
  • Must have demonstrated skills in commercial credit underwriting, in-depth knowledge of current and approved methodologies of risk measurement, business development and portfolio management for small to mid-sized companies. 
 
  • This position requires the use of sound business discretion, good judgment, and excellent problem-solving skills.
 
  • Superior analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills to assess situations, troubleshoot and make decisions from both strategic and tactical perspectives based on a thoughtful assessment of risk. 
 
  • Exhibit high attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing and analyzing financial statements when submitting credit presentations for formal committee approval.
 
  • Strong working knowledge of regulations, compliance standards, market trends and products relating to the banking industry.
 
  • Demonstrate excellent leadership qualities and possess tactful interpersonal communication skills to effectively work well cross functionally with all departments, executives, and board members.
 
  • Solid computer experience with Microsoft products required.
 
  • Possess maturity and demonstrate professionalism in addressing problems and recommending solutions to quickly resolve personnel or client issues.
 
  • Experience leading and coaching a client-focused team of highly qualified banking professionals and team leaders ensuring department and company
            goals and objectives are accomplished.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for managing staff within commercial loans and loan operations.

Education and Special Requirements:

Business and communication skills and knowledge generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree in business, finance, or a related area required.  Certification from a Graduate School of Banking is highly preferred.  Must possess a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible supervisory/management experience in the financial industry in commercial lending.  Experience in commercial lending building a book of business with credit authority required.

Experience in banking and general business is required for this position.  Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are also essential for success.
