As an Applications Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to deliver innovative solutions to our customers. You'll work closely with our sales and engineering teams to understand customer needs, develop customized solutions, and provide technical support throughout the sales process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Application Engineering

  • Assist a national sales team with vacuum product inquiries, modifications, application-specific recommendations, OEM and dealer projects, and central vacuum system designs.
  • Develop, design, and manage special vacuum modifications and accessories for unique customer requests.
  • Customer specification review when necessary
  • Design central vacuum tube systems and installation drawings.
  • Measure and assess customer-supplied material samples, as needed.
  • Create technical charts, graphs, nomograms, catalogs, MAAG pages and CAD drawings to assist the sales force.
  • Perform engineering analysis required to predict behavior of proposed designs and resolve design issues.
  • Qualify potential projects to determine whether they are feasible and if Nilfisk can provide a solution with confidence, know when to say 'no'.
  • Develop/improve back-end (technical department) and front-end (sales team) tools and programs to improve our ability to quickly, efficiently, and accurately assess applications moving forward / make them more dangerous.
  • Travel (domestic and international) as needed to receive or perform training, conduct site assessments or to evaluate installed systems. Gain further insight of potential applications for Nilfisk to consider investing in and supporting in the future.
  • Monitor and evaluate regulations and imminent legislation from (but not limited to) OSHA, NFPA and NEMA sources to ensure Nilfisk equipment meets the demands of hazardous environments whenever possible.
  • Create and maintain a database of material characteristics as part of a technical library.
  • Prioritize and plan work to adhere to project schedules.

Product Management

  • Assist in conducting training for internal and external customers.
  • Provide technical feedback relative to performance, features, options and regulatory compliance of proposed machines.

Development (Business and Personal)

  • Work with the BDM and rest of the technical department to cultivate a positive mentality from the salesforce towards the technical department. Make them *want* to call for help if they need it.
  • Act as a senior team member for any new additions to the technical department in the event of continued company growth
  • Continue to develop business sense with engineering background/mindset to provide new insights / assistance with the management team in the future. This includes continuing to grow within the office as well as continued development outside of work.
  • Depending on future company growth, assist with management of growth within the technical department.

Warehouse / Production Engineering projects.

  • Support warehouse / production with engineering projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Bachelors of Science in (Mechanical or Electrical) Engineering

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of experience in Application Engineering preferred

KNOWLEDGE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Organizational skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Must work well in a team environment and possess good communication skills
  • Experience with NRTLs and working knowledge of electrical equipment

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office programs, and ProE/CREO or similar.

OTHER:

  • Current passport
  • Fluency in Italian desirable
