Overview

Ampact is looking for an experienced Senior Director of Human Resources.

About Ampact: Ampact is a national nonprofit that specializes in implementing and scaling evidence-based AmeriCorps programs across three focus areas: education, environment, and healthy futures. Most of the programming at Ampact is focused on education - specifically through the Reading Corps, Math Corps and Early Learning Corps programs. These programs have a 20-year track record in providing high-dosage tutoring to over 50,000 students annually and have been tested rigorously through independent evaluations. Ampact has experienced significant growth in recent years and has ambition for continued growth.

Ampact has 325+ employees and 3,500+ AmeriCorps members across 10 states. Its annual operating budget is $115 million. Ampact is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota with employees located in 10 states.

Position Summary: The Senior Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading the Human Resources function across Ampact, a national, multi-state organization. Responsibilities include overseeing talent acquisition, employee relations, AmeriCorps member relations, compensation and benefits administration, performance management and the development and administration of human resources policies and procedures. The Senior Director of Human resources functions as a strategic advisor to executive and senior leadership regarding organizational design and people management issues. This position provides guidance to employees and managers on AmeriCorps member performance and retention issues, including workplace accommodations. This position supervises the Human Resources department. The Senior Director of HR observes confidentiality of employees, members, program, and organizational information. Currently the HR department consists of 5 full-time staff. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities

    Strategic Planning and Implementation of Human Resources for the Organization
  • Effectively collaborates with senior leadership to understand organization-wide goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
  • Develops and delivers an elevated level of service to business partners across the organization.
  • Develops, introduces and implements local and national organizational development initiatives.
  • Supports diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
  • Develops and implements employee engagement and retention strategies, including promoting inclusiveness and work life balance.
  • Assesses management training requirements and supplies training as needed.
  • Builds a deep understanding of the organization's programs and AmeriCorps regulations to better serve as internal consultant to leadership and supervisors on AmeriCorps human resources management issues.
  • Leadership of the Internal Human Resources Function

Provides strategic direction for Human Resources (HR) and leads the HR team in the design, implementation, communication and administration of all HR functions for employees, including:

  • Effective leadership and management of the Human Resources team.
  • Employee recruitment and onboarding: Ownership of the recruitment and onboarding process, including ensuring that open requisitions are filled within a defined time frame.
  • Performance management: Coordination and management of the annual Performance Management process.
  • Employee relations: Development and execution of a plan to deliver on Employee Engagement. Oversee Employee Relations issues and bring appropriate resolution. Handle the exit summary reporting and turnover analysis.
  • Compensation and benefits: Develop and implement an effective process to ensure ongoing timely analysis of the compensation and benefits structure to ensure that it supports company goals. Partner with vendors as appropriate.
  • Human Resources Information System (HRIS): Lead the implementation and ongoing deliverables as it relates to the company HRIS.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure organization policies and procedures are in compliance with state and federal employment laws, federal funding requirements and grant reporting guidelines. Regularly review and update policies and procedures as necessary, including the Employee Handbook. Manage federal and state reporting, as required. Report regularly on internal key performance indicators.
  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships and contracts with HR support vendors (e.g. 401K, insurance), monitor expenditures and continuously review quality of service relative to cost. Conduct an RFP process to select and identify new vendors, as needed.
  • Policies and Procedures: Design, modify and implement human resources policies and procedures that help employees achieve the organization's mission in a dynamic and growing environment.
  • Research and apply best practices that drive effectiveness in the functional areas listed above. Consult with management and stakeholders to assess, prioritize, and propose training plans to meet learning and development needs of the organization.
Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required) in Human Resources or related field
  • Advanced Degree (Preferred) in Human Resources or related field

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of HR experience with a minimum 5 years senior management experience.
  • Proactive, self-directed individual motivated to continually evaluate and improve processes and procedures.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills. An innovative thinker with strong initiative, demonstrated flexibility, able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen and consultative skills. Ability to influence others at all levels within the organization.
  • Equity skills. * Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of programs and procedures across HR, particularly in the areas of compensation, performance management, recruitment and training.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and listening skills including the ability to mediate conflict, solve problems proactively, and exercise sound judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated success developing and delivering presentations, including training.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-15 percent of the time to locations and/or meetings throughout Minnesota.
