Wages and Benefits

$20.00 - $21.00 per hour; This position is not eligible for benefits except for participation in agency sponsored retirement savings plan and accrual of Minnesota Sick and Safe Leave.

Schedule

This position is located in-person and works Monday-Friday from 7:30am - 3:30pm. The CDF program runs from June 24th to August 2nd; There will be a mandatory CDF local training tentatively on May 18th from 9:00am - 3:00pm as well as a mandatory national training in Knoxville, Tennessee from May 31st to June 4th.

A Typical Day in the Life...

A typical day as PCYC's Servant Leader Intern provides an opportunity to work, lead, and teach scholars with the curriculum provided by CDF (Children's Defense Fund) Freedom Schools. The mission of CDF Freedom Schools programs is to boost scholar motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem, and connect the needs of scholars and families to the resources of their communities. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Serving as a positive role model for all scholars.
  • Supervising and maintaining the safety of scholars.
  • Maintaining a professional decorum.
  • Setting up, managing, and breaking down classroom space according to standards outlined by CDF and the sponsor organization.
  • Engaging a maximum of 10 scholars per class in the Integrated Reading Curriculum.
  • Creating, submitting, and implementing lesson plans.
  • Attending daily debriefings.
  • Participating in Harambee and all engagement practices.
  • Creating and implementing afternoon enrichment activities.
  • Working with site staff to ensure that all program components are implemented with fidelity.
  • Reporting any issues or concerns regarding program operations to the Site Coordinator.

  • You have completed at least one year of college.
  • You demonstrate a positive attitude and model a mature and professional demeanor.
  • You have the ability to motivate others and work as part of an intergenerational team.
  • You have the ability to translate a strategic plan into direct implementation.
  • You are highly attentive to detail with the ability to lead long-term planning.
  • You have the ability to give and receive feedback.
  • You demonstrate a solid commitment to the success and well-being of all scholars.
  • You understand the role systemic racism has played in education and are committed to taking an anti-racist approach in all work functions.
  • You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have a valid driver's license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet PCYC's driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit (not applicable for new hires living out of state).
